Like the movie says, build it and they will come. In the case of wildlife, provide them with food, water, shelter and a place to raise a family and they will come to your yard.
This morning I had the pleasure of spotting a beautiful owl in my backyard tree but he was gone before I could capture a shot of him sitting there so majestically.
The deer are disappointed with my lack of bounty during this winter season and walk by my garden with their nose high in the air giving it nothing more than a glance of disdain.
My little bits of colorful yarn that I am putting out for my drop in birds disappear daily. I am experimenting with a suet cage nester and have placed it in a dry location and the sun bounces off the colors like a rainbow and attracts the birds. Best colors for attracting birds are:
- Red and Pink: Hummingbirds
- Orange: Orioles, hummingbirds
- Yellow: Goldfinches, warblers, hummingbirds
- Blue: Bluebirds, jays
Hubert the squirrel is my newest friend and he sits politely at my back door until I bring him his peanut which he takes quite delicately from my hand.
Life is beautiful in my backyard.
